Sikha Sharma Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of Axis Bank gets Busines Standards Banker of the year award for 2014-15. She was selected by a 5 member jury headed by former Dy. Governer RBI Mr. Rakesh Mohan. Her selection was based on 10 key parameters such as asset and liability growth, efficiency ratios, asset quality, employees productivity, financial inclusion, corporate governance standards, customer service, technology & innovations etc.
She joined bank in April 2009 and achieved a remarkable net profit growth rate of more 20% in last 3 years ending 2014-15. The share of retail advances in total advances of bank went up from 27% in March 2009 to 40% in March 2015. The share of corporate advances decline from 51% to 45% and SME advances also declined from 22% to 15% in the same period. Banks overall advances in the quarter July-September 2015 were up by 23% as against just 9.5% growth in banking sector.
Under her regime, bank also taken a lead focusing on technology. As a result, Forrester Research had rated banks mobile application as top most in the banking industry. This evaluation was done on the basis of a range of touch points, enrolment and login, account information, transactional functionality, service features, cross channel guidance, marketing & sales.
Madam Sharma deserves complements for achieving banker of the year award for her strategic timely decisions in the favor of bank and taking this private sector bank like Axis Bank to new heights. Other banks can take lessons from her efforts to improve the working of their banks in the present regime where banks are facing a serious problem of growing stressed assets.
