A computer virus is a program code that, when executed, replicates itself by inserting copies of itself ( modified copies which can harm the actual program) into other places in computer’s hardware and software. Viruses usually does harmful activities on hosts computer. It attacks on computer’s parts such as hard disk space or CPU time. It occupies space in hard disk and CPU. Computer Virus accesses private information, corrupts data, displays political or humorous messages on the user’s screen, spam their contacts etc.
Developers who write code for virus , write it so that they can attack on computer’s resources. Most of viruses target the systems running Microsoft Windows, with a variety of ways to infect new hosts and often using complex anti-detection mechanism to avoid antivirus software. The goal for creating viruses may be to gain profit or to steal code of program.
There are many open source antivirus software are available in the market to provide security to a computer user. Many users install antivirus software that can detect and eliminate known viruses when the computer attempts to download or run the executable (which may be distributed as an email attachment, or on USB flash drives, for example). Some antivirus software blocks known Damage can be reduced by making regular backups of data (and the operating systems) on many kind of storage devices (usually secondary devices).
There are many websites that provide a secure scanning of hard drives such as VirusTotal.com (allow users to upload one or more doubtful files to be scanned and checked by one or more antivirus programs) . .Microsoft’s System File Checker can be used to check for, and repair, damaged system files or operating system files. Reinstalling the operating system is a worthy approach for removing virus . It may be possible to recover copies of important user data by booting from a live CD, or by connecting the hard drive to another computer and booting from the second computer’s operating system, taking great care not to infect that computer by executing any infected programs on the original drive.
