A model is defined as a representation of real life system whether such system refers to a problem, process, operations or events. Models enable us to experiments more effectively than on the system itself which is either impossible or too costly.
Advantages of a model –
Describes problem concisely.
Systematic & logical approach to the problem.
Indicate the scope and limitation of the problem.
Deals with entire problem.
Use high power mathematical tool.
Help in finding avenues for new research and improvement in a system.
Disadvantage of a model –
Only an attempt to understand the problem and never considered as absolute
Validity of any model only be verified by carrying an experiment.
Characteristics of a good model –
(i.) Flexibility – should be capable of adjusting.
(ii.) Less no. of variable – no of variable in a model should not be large but important facts should not be left over.
(iii.) Less Time – should not take much time in construction
